The Institute for Small Markets in Law and Economics (ISLE) is pleased to announce that registrations are now officially open for the Small Economies Forum (SEF), which will take place in Manila on 5 May 2026, on the eve of the International Competition Network (ICN) Annual Conference.
Participants can now register directly via the dedicated website: www.small-economies-forum.org
A first-of-its-kind forum dedicated to small economies
The Small Economies Forum will bring together heads and senior representatives of competition authorities, as well as policymakers and experts from small and insular economies worldwide. This inaugural edition aims to create a structured and lasting platform for dialogue on the specific challenges faced by jurisdictions operating in structurally constrained markets, including:
- limited market size
- high levels of concentration
- geographic isolation and logistical constraints
- exposure to external economic shocks
While competition law principles remain universal, their implementation in such contexts requires pragmatic adaptation and institutional creativity. The Forum is designed precisely to foster this exchange of experiences and approaches.
A milestone for the ISLE initiative
The Manila Forum also marks an important step in the structuring of an international community of practice around small economies.
It will feature the official launch of the forthcoming ISLE & Concurrences book:
“Competition Law in Small and Insular Economies: Unity of Principles, Diversity of Approaches”
This collective work brings together contributions from competition authorities across multiple jurisdictions and reflects a growing recognition that small economies are not peripheral, but central to the global economic system.
